Glencoe is 25 miles north of Chicago, and most days, the city skyline can be seen from beautiful Glencoe Beach. The village is tucked away but still close enough to everything. Residents can enjoy city life and then come home and unwind in Glencoe's quiet park-like setting.

The wide brick-paved sidewalks are welcoming and pleasing to the village’s classic appeal. People can walk with ease around town, visiting businesses and running errands.

Glencoe has a laid-back atmosphere and a small-town vibe. That, along with the beautiful scenery and exclusive feel, has enticed generations of families to stay in the community. 

 

Locals enjoy taking walks and riding their bicycles around town. There are even bicycle groups where residents meet and ride trails together. Locals can find most of what they want or need in town, but if they want to go somewhere else, they can drive or take the Metra train. 

 

Some people are drawn to this affluent village because of the picturesque landscape and the hometown feel. The high-ranking school system and sense of community attract others. Regardless of the allure, Glencoe is an enchanting place many would like to call home. 

 

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

 

Downtown has many restaurants, shops, and services. Many of which are within easy walking distance from one another. Some people grab an early morning coffee or gourmet toast at Hometown Coffee & Juice. Around the corner is Foodstuffs, which opens at brunch. The restaurant has delicious soups and sandwiches, and grab-and-go items. 

 

Guildhall has a variety of dishes, everything from a gourmet burger to handmade pasta. It is an elegant restaurant with a light and airy feel and plenty of admirers from the city. When locals or visitors want to work off extra calories or try to de-stress, there is the nearby Reach Yoga. The studio offers classes daily and has a small section of apparel and other items for sale. 

 

Things to Do

 

The annual Independence Day Celebration and the Glencoe Art Show are a few community events Glencoe Park District plans throughout the year. The farmers’ market is also a fun event with live music, fresh produce, and a chance to catch up with friends. 

 

If you appreciate a good night of theater, more than 60,000 people visit the Writers Theatre each season for riveting plays. Many of them are new and original works. It also sponsors educational programs to foster a love for the arts. 

 

Children love a visit to Friends Park. It has swings, a train, and a slide, all with safety in mind. The Takiff Center has a gymnasium for sports, fitness studios, art studios, and other things everyone can enjoy. 

 

If you like hitting the links, Glencoe Golf Club is a municipal course open to the public. It offers private instruction, leagues, and summer camps. The course is next to the Forest Preserve and the mesmerizing Chicago Botanic Garden. Both bring visitors from far and wide, with some stopping at Glencoe along the way.
